This treatment describes Pristaulacus iosephi from a female holotype collected in Fang, Chiang Mai, in 1958. The roughly 17-mm wasp is mostly black, has extensive brown wing infuscation, two tooth-like pronotal processes, an elevated overhanging mesonotum, a six-toothed tarsal claw and an ovipositor equal to forewing length. It is known from Chiang Mai and Yunnan, belongs to the P. comptipennis group, and has no known host.
Key findings
- The Fang holotype anchors the Thai record. • Pronotal processes and a six-toothed claw aid diagnosis. • Known distribution covers Chiang Mai and Yunnan.
Why this matters globally
Historical museum material preserves cross-border biodiversity evidence and provides a benchmark for modern resurvey.
Thai researcher contribution
A Chulalongkorn University researcher helps bring a Chiang Mai specimen into a modern accessible taxonomic treatment.
Limitations to consider
The principal evidence is one decades-old female, with no DNA, host or current-survey data reported.
