Educational pathways to career resilience in the age of artificial intelligence: Institutional and governance roles in an emerging country

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) has reshaped labor markets globally, increasing demand for adaptable and resilient workers. In emerging economies such as Thailand, low- to mid-skill workers are particularly vulnerable to AI-driven disruptions, highlighting the critical role of educational institutions and governance frameworks in fostering career resilience (Weerasombat & Pumipatyothin, 2025; Alan et al., 2025). This study examines how educational institutions in Thailand contribute to building career resilience in response to AI-induced labor market transformations, with particular attention to institutional practices and policy-level governance. Using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 educators, administrators, and policymakers from universities and vocational colleges in Bangkok and Pathumthani. Qualitative content analysis identified four key themes: educational institutions as enablers of adaptive learning; integration of digital literacy and soft skills into curricula; institutional and governance-related constraints; and education for employability and social inclusion. While AI adoption has supported innovative pedagogy and lifelong learning, limited capacity, resource constraints, and policy misalignment continue to hinder effective implementation. Strengthening institutional capacity and governance coordination is essential for building sustainable career resilience in the AI era.
