The construction industry is a major contributor to Global Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, with Embodied Carbon (EC), in building materials being a significant factor. Reducing Embodied Carbon (EC) during the early design stages is critical for mitigating climate change and aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 13. However, while global Building Information Modeling (BIM), tools for sustainability exist, they often rely on generic international databases. This limitation leads to significant discrepancies when quantifying emissions in specific regions like Thailand due to variations in material production and supply chains. This study addresses this gap by implementing a localized BIM-integrated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), workflow. The framework integrates Autodesk Revit with Kit Carbon software to utilize the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) database for real-time Embodied Carbon (EC) assessment. The workflow was validated through a case study of a 13-story parking building project at Chiang Mai University, focusing on the product stage, specifically modules A1 through A3, of the structural components. The results revealed a total Embodied Carbon (EC) of 3,659.89 tonCO 2 e, translating to an Embodied Carbon Intensity (ECI) of 0.099 tonCO 2 e/m². Furthermore, the superstructure floors and substructure structural foundations were identified as the primary carbon hotspots, collectively accounting for 83.90% of the total structural emissions. Ultimately, this study demonstrates that utilizing a localized database within a Building Information Modeling (BIM) environment provides designers with a more accurate and reliable framework for decision-making and structural optimization in the pre-construction phase, overcoming the limitations of non-localized global tools.
