Readiness of Filipino Teachers in Teaching English as Foreign Language in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand: Basis for In-Service Training Development

This research examines how well Filipino teachers in Thailand are equipped to teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL), with a focus on their utilization of teaching materials, strategies, and assessment methods. The study focuses on major obstacles faced by 100 Filipino EFL teachers working abroad, including problems with utilizing effective teaching techniques, lack of involvement in ongoing professional development, and limited understanding of advanced teaching methods. The results show that while teachers are typically well-equipped to utilize teaching materials and evaluation methods, there is still opportunity for enhancing the incorporation of multimedia and tailoring instruction. Lack of resources, teaching techniques, and assessment tools were found, showing a clear link between various aspects of readiness. Teachers demonstrate their dedication to addressing these challenges through proactive actions like participating in professional development and integrating technology. The research highlights the significance of ongoing professional growth and personalized assistance to address the gaps that have been identified. The ELEVATE program proposed aims to improve teaching effectiveness through specialized training in advanced teaching techniques, efficient use of instructional materials, and technology integration. Furthermore, the program encourages teamwork and organized systems for receiving feedback.
