Laser induced bidirectional transfer using a 532 nm sub-nanosecond laser

Abstract A simultaneous forward and backward laser induced transfer process for depositing gold onto glass substrates was demonstrated using a single laser shot. In this study, the gold leaf was sandwiched between two glass slides and irradiated by a 500 ps laser at the wavelength of 532 nm. The laser fluences were between 0.39 J/cm 2 and 1.29 J/cm 2 . The laser beam was sent through the top glass substrate, resulting in simultaneous bidirectional transfer and successfully depositing gold onto both glass slides. The mechanisms of forward and backward transfer are discussed in detail. Bidirectional transfer using two layers of gold leaf was also tested, however, this did not improve the transfer results. This approach significantly extends the capabilities of traditional laser induced transfer techniques.
