Over the past 150 years, stem cells have emerged as a promising resource for tissue engineering and cell replacement therapies. Due to their remarkable properties, numerous studies have investigated the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in maintaining tissue homeostasis, promoting regeneration, and enhancing therapeutic efficacy, establishing them as an ideal source for cell-based therapies, including allogeneic transplantation. The proliferative capacity of MSCs is a crucial factor for their suitability in clinical applications, including regenerative medicine and cell-based therapies. In addition to their extensively studied capacity to differentiate into osteocytes, adipocytes, and chondrocytes, MSCs also demonstrate remarkable plasticity to develop into various other functional cell types under specific conditions. This expanded differentiation potential contributes to their value in regenerative medicine and enhances their therapeutic application. Regenerative medicine aims to restore the normal function of diseased or damaged cells, organs, and tissues through various approaches, such as cell-based therapies that stimulate and coordinate biological repair processes.
