In increasingly complex and uncertain environments, firms face growing pressure to improve sustainable supply chain performance while responding to evolving stakeholder and regulatory demands. Drawing on dynamic capability theory, this study examines how firms deploy business model renewal, sustainability-oriented investment and technology, and supply chain foresight capabilities to enhance sustainability outcomes through supply chain orchestration. Using survey data from 586 firms across multiple supply chain sectors in Thailand, a sequential analytical approach was applied, including exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, cluster analysis, discriminant analysis, covariance-based structural equation modeling, and multigroup analysis. The results identify three distinct firm profiles—capability-constrained, capability-building, and capability-leading—demonstrating that capability configurations differ systematically across firms. Business model renewal consistently supports orchestration across all profiles, while investment and technology capability is particularly critical for lower-capability firms. Supply chain foresight contributes to coordination primarily at an intermediate stage, and orchestration enhances performance only when a minimum capability threshold is achieved, with the strongest effects observed among capability-building firms. Overall, the findings show that sustainable supply chain performance depends not only on individual capabilities, but on their integration into coordinated action across supply chain actors. The study highlights the role of orchestration in aligning stakeholders, improving resource efficiency, and translating sustainability initiatives into system-level outcomes, offering practical insights for firms in emerging economies seeking to advance more responsible and sustainable supply chain practices.
