Abstract Motivated by mounting observational evidence for ultra-strong magnetic fields in magnetar interiors — where surface field strengths reach $10^{14}$--$10^{15}$\,G and internal values may approach the quantum critical Schwinger scale $B_{\rm crit} \approx 4.41\times 10^{13}$\,G — we investigate the structural consequences of quantum electrodynamic (QED) corrections on self-gravitating anisotropic compact stars. We develop a static anisotropic stellar model in the context of Einstein--Euler--Heisenberg (EEH) gravity by employing the Karmarkar condition, which ensures that the underlying spacetime belongs to embedding class one. The inclusion of the Euler--Heisenberg Lagrangian introduces nonlinear electrodynamic corrections that extend the classical Einstein--Maxwell framework to account for one-loop QED vacuum polarization effects in ultra-dense regimes. Adopting the minimal geometric deformation (MGD) gravitational decoupling scheme, the coupled field equations are decomposed into a seed isotropic sector described by a Finch--Skea-type metric satisfying the Karmarkar condition and an additional anisotropic $\theta$-source controlled by a dimensionless coupling parameter $\zeta$. The behavior of the metric functions, matter variables, and anisotropic stresses is studied throughout the stellar interior for six well-observed compact star candidates: Her~X-1, Cen~X-3, LMC~X-4, 4U~1608-52, PSR~J1614-2230, and Vela~X-1. Hydrostatic equilibrium is verified using the generalized Tolman--Oppenheimer--Volkoff (TOV) equation, and stability is assessed through Herrera's cracking criterion and the relativistic adiabatic index. All obtained stellar models remain regular at the center and do not show any physical singularity. The matter distribution satisfies the usual energy conditions, namely the NEC, WEC, SEC, and DEC, throughout the star. For the case $\zeta=-0.3$, the MGD deformation increases the effective mass of PSR~J1614-2230 by about $16\%$ compared with the corresponding seed solution. These results provide new insights into the role of pressure anisotropy and quantum electrodynamic effects in the modeling of ultra-dense self-gravitating compact objects, and motivate dedicated comparison with NICER mass--radius measurements and gravitational-wave tidal deformability constraint
