Information from the abstract
Sub-6 GHz dual-band high-impedance surfaces have been reported as empirical geometries rather than as design rules: no published dual-band cell gives a rule relating geometry to the position of the two artificial-magnetic-conductor resonances, or identifies the parameter that controls their separation. This paper derives an equivalent-circuit model for an asymmetric defected-ground electromagnetic-bandgap unit cell and shows that its dual-band behaviour is governed by an invariant splitting law. The cell is modelled as a series-loaded shunt resonator in which a defected-ground tank couples to the grounding path through the via offset. The model predicts that coupling conserves the product of the two resonance frequencies while increasing their separation, and a continuous via-offset sweep confirms both signatures: the geometric mean f2f3 is constant to 1.0% while the ratio f3/f2 spans 1.23 to 1.46. Hierarchical parameter extraction recovers the uncoupled mode at 5.5916 GHz against 5.5890 GHz measured independently—a 0.05% agreement obtained without constraining it—confirming that splitting is controlled by a single coupling parameter about a fixed geometric centre. A 7.93×7.93 mm2 cell (0.065λ0 at 2.45 GHz) demonstrates the result, backing a dual-slot radiator for simultaneous Wi-Fi 6E/7 and 2.45 GHz operation at a total profile of 17.8 mm (0.145λ0). A control study against a plain conducting reflector isolates the metasurface contribution to ≈1.0 dB at 2.45 GHz.
