This study presents the development and characterization of mycelium-based green composites (MBCs) produced from various lignocellulosic wastes for eco-friendly decorative and design applications. The effects of fungal species and substrate types on the physical, mechanical, thermal, and acoustic properties of the composites were thoroughly investigated. The results revealed that both fungal species and substrate selection significantly influenced composite performance. MBCs produced with Panus similis exhibited the highest density (up to 259.80 kg/m 3 ), superior structural compactness, and enhanced mechanical strength, with compressive strength at specified strain reaching 1.485 MPa. In contrast, Cubamyces flavidus -based composites demonstrated lower density and more porous structures, contributing to lightweight characteristics and greater sound absorption, with peak coefficients of up to 89.33% at 1000 Hz. Shrinkage values ranged from 3.83 to 18.97%, with sugarcane leaves-based composites showing improved dimensional stability. Water absorption and swelling behavior were strongly correlated with internal porosity, where denser composites exhibited enhanced moisture resistance. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated a typical three-stage degradation pattern, with certain MBCs showing thermal stability comparable to conventional materials such as corrugated cardboard and medium-density fiberboard. Scanning electron microscopy further confirmed that the interaction between fungal hyphae and substrate form influences the internal structure, directly affecting material properties. Overall, the developed MBCs exhibited an optimal blend of lightweight structure, mechanical properties, thermal stability, and superior acoustic performance. These findings highlight their strong potential as sustainable alternatives to conventional materials in interior design and decorative applications, while also promoting the valorization of agricultural waste into high-value bio-based products.
