Information from the abstract
Currently, structural health monitoring of cables typically relies on frequency-based methods, which require sensor installation directly onto the cables. This poses a significant limitation when cables are located in hard-to-reach areas. Therefore, this study proposes an alternative approach using three-dimensional (3D) laser scanning technology for the non-contact tension assessment of largescale cables. The primary advantage of this method is its ability to collect data remotely without the need to install any devices on the cables.Based on cable mechanics, sag curves are analyzed using specified tension values, and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) is employed to determine the bestfit sag curve and its corresponding tension. The suspension bridge crossing the Tha Chin River in Lam Phaya Subdistrict, Nakhon Pathom Province, was selected as the case study. The results demonstrate that 3D laser scanning technology provides high accuracy in capturing the sag coordinates of suspension bridge cables. The assessment indicates that the main cables remain safe under both minimum and maximum live-load conditions.Furthermore, the study reveals that reducing the number of segments or coordinate points used in the analysis remains feasible while maintaining sufficient accuracy. However, coordinate data at the support points remain critical for obtaining reliable analytical results.
