Information from the abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of different fruit-loading levels on the growth and yield of melon produced using a hydroponic system based on the Floating Root Technique (FRT). The experiment was conducted at Thaksin University, Phatthalung Campus, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four replications and five plants per replication. Fourteen-day-old seedlings were transplanted into the hydroponic system at a spacing of 40 cm between plants and 60 cm between rows. Three fruit-loading treatments were evaluated: one fruit per plant (Tr1), which served as the control; two fruits per plant (Tr2); and three fruits per plant (Tr3). At 31 days after pollination, fresh fruit weight did not differ significantly between Tr1 and Tr2, with values of 2,121.84 and 1,680.12 g per fruit, respectively. Tr2 produced the highest total fresh weight at 3,360.24 g per plant, followed by Tr3 and Tr1, at 2,996.61 and 2,121.84 g per plant, respectively. Fruit sweetness ranged from 14.32 to 14.34 °Brix, with no statistically significant differences among treatments. In addition, Tr2 produced the highest fresh yield per 100 m², at 1,401.22 kg, corresponding to an estimated revenue of 140,122.00 Baht. Therefore, under the conditions of this experiment, retaining two fruits per plant was the most suitable treatment in terms of total fresh yield and economic returns.
