Information from the abstract
This study aimed to compare the tolerance and efficiency of Hydrilla verticillata (L.f.) and Ceratophyllum demersum (L.) for adsorbing cadmium from contaminated water. The aquatic plants were cultured in cadmium solutions at concentrations of 0 (control), 2, 4, and 10 mg/L for a period of 7 days, after which the cadmium content remaining in both the plants and the water was analyzed. The results revealed that Hydrilla verticillata (L.f.) exhibited the highest tolerance to the cadmium solution at a concentration of 2 mg/L and was most effective at removing cadmium at a concentration of 4 mg/L, with a bioconcentration factor (BCF) ranging from 108.33 to 200.10. Meanwhile, C. demersum (L.) showed the highest tolerance to the cadmium solution at a concentration of 2 mg/L, achieved the highest cadmium removal from water at a concentration of 10 mg/L, and had a BCF ranging from 185.10 to 264.91. Comparing the water treatment performance of the two species, Hydrilla verticillata (L.f.) was significantly more tolerant and effective at removing cadmium than C. demersum (L.) (p < 0.05).
