Determinants of rational antibiotic use behavior: An analytical cross-sectional study

IMPACT SIGNAL79/100
01

Information from the abstract

This analytical cross-sectional study aimed to examine the factors influencing rational antibiotic use behaviors among the population in Sisaket Province. A total of 824 participants were selected, and data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire from April 1, 2025, to May 31, 2025. Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, median, and the 25th and 75th percentiles, were used. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was employed to analyze bivariate correlations, while Stepwise multiple regression analysis was applied to determine predictive relationships between independent and dependent variables, with a significance level set at 0.05. The results revealed seven significant predictors of rational antibiotic use behaviors: knowledge of rational drug use, perceived benefits of rational drug use, perceived barriers to rational drug use, health literacy on rational drug use, history of antibiotic consumption, income, and perceived susceptibility to irrational drug use. These factors collectively explained 30.9% of the variance in rational antibiotic use behaviors (R² = 0.309, R²adj = 0.303, SEest = 6.496, F = 5.397, p < 0.001). Based on the findings, it is recommended to continuously promote knowledge and health literacy regarding rational antibiotic use among the population, alongside raising awareness of its benefits and potential risks. Additionally, efforts should focus on reducing barriers to accessing accurate information through communication channels tailored to the needs of different target groups in each community.
