ABSTRACT Objectives This mixed‐methods study examined LA levels and associated demographic factors among 150 children (aged 6–9 years) in rural Chiang Rai, Thailand, and investigated parental conceptualizations of these familial and social assets. Methods Quantitative data were collected using the Thai Positive Life Assets Scale (Thai‐PLAS), a 44‐item dichotomous tool administered verbally to children. Qualitative data were concurrently collected through semi‐structured interviews with a purposive sample of 20 parents. Results All five LA domains fell within the moderate range (> 70.00%–90.00%). Mean scores were highest for Power of Self (M = 89.91%, SD = ±12.24) and lowest for Power of Family (M = 86.92%, SD = ± 16.98). Child age was negatively correlated with total LAs ( r = −0.27, p < 0.001) and with all five domains, most strongly with Power of Family ( r = −0.28, p < 0.001) and least strongly with Power of Self ( r = −0.16, p < 0.05). Thematic analysis identified one overarching theme, “LAs as cultivated capital for the child's life course,” comprising four subthemes: (1) LAs as educational attainment; (2) LAs as the foundation of health and well‐being; (3) LAs cultivated through cooperation among family, teachers, and communities; and (4) LAs as the foundation of the child's future. Conclusion The broad, cross‐domain decline in life assets with age, together with qualitative evidence emphasizing family‐community cooperation, indicates a need for targeted, multi‐domain interventions during middle childhood. These findings offer specific parameters for healthcare practitioners and policymakers to optimize pediatric development and family systems in rural contexts.
