Translational Analysis of Cytokine SNPs Reveals an Interplay Between Immune Response and Glucose Metabolism Following Mild-to-Moderate COVID-19

A study of 190 people after mild-to-moderate COVID-19 associated selected TGFβ1 and IFNγ genotypes with neutralizing-antibody or anti-RBD levels, but the findings are exploratory and do not establish mechanism.

Key findings

  • TGFβ1 rs1800469 TC was less frequent in the high neutralizing-antibody group (OR 0.445, p=0.019) and high anti-RBD group (OR 0.472, p=0.032). IFNγ rs2430561 TA was less frequent with high anti-RBD (OR 0.245, p=0.025). High neutralizing-antibody participants had mean HbA1c 5.98 versus 5.66 (p=0.03), and a small baseline-antibody/three-month-HbA1c correlation appeared in the AA genotype (r=0.213, p=0.035).
