FTIR Fingerprinting Unravels Solvent-Dependent Antibacterial Potentials of Vernonia amygdalina Leaf Extracts Against Selected Multidrug-Resistant ESKAPE Isolates

A Nigerian laboratory study compared aqueous and n-hexane Vernonia amygdalina leaf extracts, using phytochemical screening and FTIR before agar-well-diffusion testing against selected multidrug-resistant ESKAPE isolates. Chiang Mai University- and Chulalongkorn University-affiliated authors joined Nigerian collaborators in phytochemistry, FTIR, and microbiology. Plant material and isolates came from Nigeria, not Thailand.

Limitations to consider

Agar diffusion depends on compound mobility and does not directly provide MIC/MBC. FTIR functional groups do not identify specific molecules. Replication details, cytotoxicity, stability, and in vivo evidence are missing, and p=0.066 is not a non-inferiority test.
