Development of a Clinical Risk Prediction Model for Risk Stratification of Capecitabine-Induced Grade 2–3 Hand–Foot Syndrome

A retrospective cohort of 596 capecitabine-treated patients identified five predictors for grade 2–3 hand-foot syndrome. The internally validated model showed an optimism-adjusted C-statistic of 0.72 and good calibration.

01

Key findings

  • 22.2% developed grade 2–3 HFS
  • The final model used five predictors
  • External validation is required before broader implementation
02

Why this matters globally

The model may support individualized toxicity surveillance and risk stratification for capecitabine treatment.

03

Thai researcher contribution

Researchers from Buddhasothorn Hospital, Chiang Mai University and Naresuan University developed the model.

04

Limitations to consider

The model was developed retrospectively at a single center and still requires external validation.
