ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTI-APOPTOTIC ACTIVITIES OF MAKIANG FRUIT EXTRACT IN ARPE-19 CELLS EXPOSED TO GLUCOSE-INDUCED CELLULAR DAMAGE

A 95% ethanol makiang-fruit extract showed antioxidant activity and, when co-administered in 30 mM glucose-exposed ARPE-19 cells, the highest 200 microgram/mL dose increased viability by 15.4%, reduced ROS by 37.8%, and lowered caspase-9 and -3 activities.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate, l-theanine and theophylline abolish high-glucose-induced renal cell senescence and subsequent epithelial-mesenchymal transition and fibroblast activation via SIRT1/PGC-1α axis: Implications for diabetic kidney disease

High glucose induced senescence in proximal tubular cells, whose SASP-conditioned medium then triggered epithelial-mesenchymal transition in distal tubular cells and fibroblast activation. EGCG, L-theanine, and theophylline suppressed these effects while restoring SIRT1/PGC-1alpha signaling.

Curcumin Attenuates Breast Cancer Cell-induced Inflammasome Activation via the NOD-like receptor protein 3/Caspase-1/Interleukin-1β Axis

Breast-cancer-cell conditioned medium drove THP-1-derived macrophages toward a pro-inflammatory tumor-associated phenotype with higher IL-1beta, NLRP3, and caspase-1. Curcumin pretreatment reduced IL-1beta secretion, NLRP3 protein, and IL1B/CASP1 transcripts.

Inhibition of calpain-mediated BAX cleavage attenuates Japanese encephalitis virus-induced apoptosis in SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells

In SH-SY5Y cells, Japanese encephalitis virus activated calpain to cleave BAX into p18 BAX, which moved to mitochondria and triggered cytochrome c, caspase-3, PARP cleavage, and apoptosis. The calpain inhibitor calpeptin attenuated these signals and improved cell viability.

Artificial neural network modelling using complete blood count for the early detection of black lung disease among Indonesian coal miner: A retrospective longitudinal study

Annual health data from 807 Indonesian coal miners followed from 2013-2021 showed 13.9% cumulative black-lung incidence. A complete-blood-count neural network and Cox model both identified eosinophils and monocytes as influential predictors.

Assessment of Inappropriate Omeprazole Prescribing, Associated Factors and Financial Impact in the Outpatient Department of a General Hospital in Thailand

A review of 347 outpatient prescriptions for 229 patients from January-June 2025 at one Thai general hospital classified 58.2% of omeprazole prescriptions as potentially inappropriate. Of these, 75.2% lacked an appropriate indication, followed by inappropriate duration.

Prognostic factors and prognostic risk score of 30-day all-cause mortality in thyroid storm

A retrospective cohort of 115 thyroid-storm patients at a Thai tertiary center had 13% 30-day mortality. An eight-point score using male sex, hypertension, SOFA at least 2, and GCS at most 10 achieved apparent AUC 0.81 and bootstrap-corrected AUC 0.79.

Genomic Characterization, Antimicrobial Resistance Profiles, and tetA Nucleotide Substitutions of Escherichia coli Isolated from Healthy Dogs in Thailand

Fecal samples from 200 healthy dogs at 50 clinics in Chiang Mai and Nakhon Si Thammarat during January-March 2026 yielded 66 E. coli isolates. Resistance reached 100% for ampicillin, 84.85% for piperacillin, 60.61% for ceftriaxone, 56.06% for tetracycline, and 47% multidrug resistance.

Drying-Induced Structural and Oxidative Transformations in Sustainable Proteins: Impact on Physicochemical Properties and Flavor-Binding Functionality

This review proposes a structure-process-function framework explaining how hot-air, heat-pump, microwave, and freeze-drying differently unfold, aggregate, and oxidize plant and marine proteins, changing how volatile flavors are bound, retained, and released.

Ultrasound-Activated Metal–Organic Frameworks Incorporated Polyacrylonitrile Nanofibers Promote Macrophage Inflammation

Researchers embedded a manganese-titanium metal-organic framework in polyacrylonitrile nanofibers to convert ultrasound into electrical stimulation. The composite generated a peak 0.24 V and, under ultrasound in RAW-Blue cells, activated NF-kB, TNF-alpha, IL-6, and transient calcium influx.
