Thai terrestrial freshwater-crab taxonomy70IMPACT SIGNAL
Evidence of global relevance

Six new species of terrestrial crabs (Crustacea, Decapoda, Potamidae) from Thailand

Re-examination of old collections and aquarium-trade material revealed two new Thaiphusa and four new Thaipotamon species from Thailand. Male gonopods, third maxillipeds and sternopleonal morphology distinguished them, and keys to both genera were provided. The taxonomic advance does not supply current population or conservation data.

Sol-gel ZnO photocatalysis70IMPACT SIGNAL
Evidence of global relevance

Effect of Hexamethylenetetramine on Physical, Structural, and Photocatalytic Properties of ZnO Nanostructures Synthesized via One-Step Sol-Gel Process

A KMITL team synthesised ZnO from zinc acetate or nitrate using low-temperature one-step sol-gel processing. Adding hexamethylenetetramine produced smaller, more uniform rods/flakes with improved crystallinity and pore connectivity. Despite not maximising surface area, HMTA samples generated more reactive species and degraded rhodamine B more effectively under UV.

Cacao microbes, probiotics and AMR70IMPACT SIGNAL
Evidence of global relevance

Comparative Genomic and Functional Characterization of Pediococcus acidilactici Isolated from Fermented Cacao with Anti-ESKAPE Activity

Walailak University researchers screened P. acidilactici from fermented cacao. Isolate CR05 tolerated acid, digestive enzymes and bile, adhered to HT-29 cells and inhibited ESKAPE pathogens in vitro. No acquired AMR genes or haemolysis were detected, but resistance to several tested antibiotics remains a safety concern. It is a candidate, not an approved probiotic.

Perennicordyceps prolifica Matocec & I. Kusan

A taxonomic treatment of a Guizhou specimen confirmed Perennicordyceps prolifica by morphology and phylogeny. It occurred on a lepidopteran cocoon rather than the cicada hosts previously reported from Japan, making this a new Chinese geographic and host record, not a new species. Its Zenodo DOI is registered through DataCite rather than Crossref.

Neuron-specific deletion of ADAR1 induces brain malformation and early postnatal lethality

Neuron-specific deletion of both ADAR1 p110 and p150 in mice activated type-I interferon, caused choroid-plexus and ependymal hypoplasia, ventricular obstruction and early postnatal death. Restoring p150 or deleting MDA5 largely normalised interferon signalling and obstruction but did not rescue survival, indicating essential functions beyond the MDA5 pathway.

Phage-antibiotic strategies against AMR70IMPACT SIGNAL
Evidence of global relevance

Comparative genomics and cefepime synergy of a lytic Vectrevirus phage Eco-MTCMU-01, targeting extended spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli

A Thai team isolated lytic phage Eco-MTCMU-01 from wastewater and assigned it to Vectrevirus. Its genome contained no identifiable lysogeny, resistance, virulence or anti-CRISPR genes. Phage alone did not eradicate bacteria by 24 hours, but with cefepime it produced FICI 0.25 and reduced MIC/MBC from 32-64 to below 8 micrograms/mL in a representative ESBL E. coli isolate. This is in-vitro synergy, not a ready therapy.

Solvent-Dependent Green Synthesis of ZnO Nanopowders Using Mitragyna speciosa Leaf Extract: Impact on Piezo-Photocatalytic and Antibacterial

A KMITL team synthesised ZnO using Mitragyna speciosa leaf extracts prepared in water or methanol. The methanol route produced more spherical, less aggregated particles and stronger light-plus-ultrasound degradation of rhodamine B, with antibacterial activity comparable to commercial ZnO. Superoxide dominated the proposed mechanism, but evidence remains laboratory-based.

Identification of an Optimal Gyroid Microarchitecture of 3D-Printed Hydroxyapatite Bone Substitutes for Vertical Bone Augmentation and Osteoconduction

A Chulalongkorn-Zurich collaboration compared three 3D-printed hydroxyapatite gyroid spacings in rabbits. The 0.50 mm design was mechanically stronger and bridged defects well, while 0.80/1.10 mm designs achieved more vertical height; the authors judged 1.10 mm the best compromise across both models. These are rabbit, not human, results.

Two new species of Aricidea (Aricidea) (Annelida: Paraonidae) from the Andaman coast and the Gulf of Thailand

Thai researchers described Aricidea pacharaphoni and A. sathingpra as new species from the Andaman coast and Gulf of Thailand using antennae, branchiae and chaetae. COI phylogeny supported A. pacharaphoni, and a global key to Aricidea was provided. The abstract is less clear about molecular support for A. sathingpra.

Muscle ultrasound measurement reliability70IMPACT SIGNAL
Evidence of global relevance

Reliability of transversus abdominis and gluteus medius muscle thickness measurements using ultrasound imaging in chronic non-specific low back pain individuals

A reliability study in 24 participants, 12 asymptomatic and 12 with chronic non-specific low back pain, found intra-rater ICCs of 0.86-0.99 and inter-rater ICCs of 0.86-0.99 for transversus abdominis and gluteus medius thickness in standing tasks, with SEM and MDC estimates. Reliability does not establish diagnostic validity or treatment benefit.

Evidence of global relevance

Physics-guided transformation of breathomic feature spaces into disease-specific representations for respiratory disease classification

A computational study transformed 121 breath samples from asthma, bronchiectasis and COPD through simulated mid-infrared, plasmonic and hybrid sensing. Accuracy rose from about 0.5 in the original features to above 0.96 in repeated cross-validation and remained robust to several perturbations. This is not yet a physical diagnostic device or prospective clinical test.

Timing and causes of neonatal deaths in India: a systematic review and meta-analysis

A systematic review and meta-analysis of 32 Indian studies covering 14,681 neonatal deaths found 75% occurred on days 1-7 and 36% on day one. Prematurity/low birth weight accounted for 31%; over 90% of asphyxia- and prematurity-related deaths occurred in week one, while sepsis was distributed into the late period. Evidence spans heterogeneous observational studies.
