Lactobacillus acidophilus abolishes oxalate-mediated renal epithelial barrier disruption and calcium oxalate monohydrate crystal adhesion to renal epithelial cells

In a renal epithelial cell model, sodium oxalate disrupted barrier integrity, reduced ZO-1 and increased annexin A2-mediated crystal adhesion. Co-culture with Lactobacillus acidophilus prevented these changes and reduced oxalate in artificial urine.

Opportunistic Osteoporosis Screening from Routine Knee Radiographs Using a Multi-Stage CNN Framework with External Validation

A multi-stage framework used pretrained CNNs to extract knee-radiograph features and machine-learning classifiers to distinguish normal, osteopenia and osteoporosis. External testing exposed a gap between AUC and threshold performance, especially probability collapse for osteopenia, requiring recalibration and threshold adaptation.

Automated identification of clinically important Candida yeast species for microscopic images using self-supervised learning

A KMITL team combined YOLOv4-tiny, U-Net and DINOv2 to detect, segment and classify Candida in microscopy. Reported performance was high across detection, segmentation, binary and four-class tasks, with five-fold cross-validation.

Interpretable SHAP-based machine learning framework for patient satisfaction prediction: a case study in Thammasat University Hospital

A Thammasat team compared multiple machine-learning models for binary and three-class ophthalmology outpatient satisfaction. Nested cross-validation and training-only imbalance correction were followed by SHAP interpretation, with length of stay emerging as the strongest predictive feature.

Deep learning versus general dentists: a clinical evaluation of caries diagnostic accuracy on bitewing radiographs

YOLOv8 was trained and validated on 1,180 bitewing radiographs and tested on 247 images annotated by two experienced dentists across six lesion depths. It exceeded general dentists on recall, precision, F1 and mAP, but both struggled with initial lesions.

Environmental trade-offs of biogas utilization pathways: a global life cycle synthesis with policy-relevant insights for Southeast Asia

The systematic review synthesised 28 peer-reviewed life-cycle assessment studies published from 2015 to 2025. It compared direct combustion, combined heat and power, biomethane upgrading, transport use and carbon capture and utilisation. Results were standardised to one megajoule of useful energy and assessed across climate, eutrophication, acidification, particulate matter and resource-use indicators.

Development and validation of a physical activity questionnaire for patients following cardiac surgery

Khon Kaen University researchers developed a 27-item physical-activity questionnaire in 94 patients within three months of cardiac surgery. Internal consistency was high, and scores correlated moderately to strongly with the six-minute walk test, DASI and the SF-36 physical-function domain.

Assessing Digital Collaborative Skills among Pre-Service Elementary Teachers: Initial Instrument Evidence and Demographic Differences

Among 60 Indonesian pre-service elementary teachers after two months of collaboration through an LMS and Google Workspace, a five-domain questionnaire showed corrected item–total correlations of at least 0.30 and Cronbach's alpha of 0.82–0.88 by domain and 0.96 overall. Self-reported collaboration was high and did not differ by gender, region or age, but the absence of baseline and control data prevents a causal claim about digital learning.

Anthropology in One Health

This encyclopedia entry argues that anthropology should not merely add a “social dimension” after biomedical problems are defined. It should examine how the problem is framed, whose observations count as evidence and how descriptions shape possible interventions. The entry connects ethnography, medical anthropology, political ecology, multispecies approaches, ethnobiology and local knowledge with One Health.

The Remission Therapy Inquiry-Based Research Model (RIRM): a conceptual framework for mechanistic hypothesis generation

The Remission Therapy Inquiry-Based Research Model uses True Remission as a conceptual lens, not a validated biological endpoint. Twelve self-inquiry questions and a route-based roadmap aim to make pre-experimental mechanistic reasoning transparent and traceable.

Novel fungal species associated with Arundo donax (Poales, Poaceae) in Jiangxi, China

Fungi collected from Arundo donax in Jiangxi wetlands in 2025 were examined using morphology and multigene phylogeny. Two saprobic isolates were described as new species, Lentimurispora arundinis and Stachylidium arundinis. The work expands fungal taxonomy around a bioenergy-relevant plant but does not show that the fungi are pathogenic or beneficial.
