Digital Triple-Code Model Game Intervention for Enhancing Mathematical Achievement and Working Memory in Children at Risk of Mathematical Difficulties

Children at risk of mathematical difficulties (MD) are increasingly prevalent worldwide. This study developed a digital game–based intervention grounded in the Triple-Code Model (TCM) and aligned with the standardized mathematics curriculum and learning indicators. The intervention design followed the ADDIE and digital game-based learning frameworks. Instruments were validated by experts and piloted with 45 children at risk of MD. Seventy primary school students aged 9–11 years were randomly assigned to experimental or control groups. Computerized tests of mathematical achievement, verbal working memory, and spatial working memory were administered. Results revealed significantly greater post-training improvements in the experimental group across all measures, with large effect sizes. The findings suggest that the digital TCM game effectively enhances mathematical performance and cognitive functioning, possibly through mechanisms involving positive emotion, goal-directed processing, and reduced cognitive load, supporting its potential as a supplementary educational tool for children at risk of MD.

Linking shelter conditions to health: A multisystem analysis of stress, metabolism, and fecal microbiota in dogs

Variations in space allocation and husbandry practices can significantly affect the health and welfare of long-term shelter dogs. This study compared adrenal, metabolic, and microbiological health indicators among dogs from three shelters in Thailand: Shelter A - low-density (20.3 m²/dog), adequate enclosure size (101.9 m²), and an enrichment program; Shelter B - medium-density (3.9 m²), large enclosures (150 m²); and Shelter C - high density (3.0 m²), one communal space (800 m²), and no enrichment. Fecal glucocorticoid metabolite (fGCM) concentrations, oxidative stress (malondialdehyde, MDA), metabolic parameters (glucose, insulin, fructosamine, lipid profiles), and fecal microbiota composition and diversity were measured and analyzed in relation to management factors. Dogs in Shelter A exhibited the lowest fGCM concentrations (207.41 ± 4.55 ng/g), normal metabolic profiles, and richer, more even fecal microbiota. In contrast, dogs in Shelter C, a temple-based facility with more crowding and limited space, exhibited higher fGCM (278.71 ± 10.44 ng/g) and fructosamine concentrations, reduced alpha diversity, and a highly skewed Firmicutes-to-Bacteroidota ratio, suggesting possible adrenal cortical and microbial dysbiosis. Shelter B presented intermediate values across most parameters and management inputs. These findings show that management practices, including space allocation and enrichment, can influence stress physiology, metabolic health, and fecal microbiota composition in long-term sheltered dogs.

Forging Industry 4.0 Readiness: A Quasi‐Experimental Study on the Impact of Spreadsheet‐Integrated Automation in First‐Year Engineering Physics Labs

ABSTRACT The rapid global transformation catalyzed by Industry 4.0 fundamentally necessitates a reconstitution of the engineering skillset, particularly emphasizing digital tool proficiency, systematic problem formulation, and collaborative practice. A persistent and troubling skills gap remains, as traditional introductory physics laboratories, constrained by procedural compliance, routinely fail to cultivate these multidimensional professional competencies during the critical first‐year stage. This study addresses this pressing curricular deficit by rigorously evaluating a novel spreadsheet‐integrated automation framework (SIAF) designed for early curricular intervention. We utilized a quasi‐experimental mixed‐methods design involving 203 first‐year engineering students. Our methodology demonstrates technical depth by integrating ubiquitous spreadsheet software with low‐cost IoT microcontrollers (ESP32) for real‐time data processing and acquisition, thereby simulating authentic industrial workflows. Crucially, the study deployed a validated multi‐dimensional IRR, addressing a persistent methodological deficit in holistic competency assessment. Quantitative analysis confirmed the SIAF's robust efficacy, yielding statistically significant positive improvements across six competency domains. The most substantial gains were registered in domains essential for the digital workplace: spreadsheet skills ( d ≈ 0.65), technical skills ( d ≈ 0.45), and digital/automation literacy ( d ≈ 0.43). Qualitative data revealed that automation successfully reduced extraneous cognitive load, fostering systematic troubleshooting and a strong sense of digital fluency derived from self‐mastery. Evolving Pathways of Departure and Return in Rural Thailand

ABSTRACT This paper draws on a forty‐year longitudinal (1982–2022) village study of Thailand to reflect on how circulation persists, but in new ways. We trace evolving migration flows over a period during which Thailand progressed from low‐income to upper‐middle‐income status, and Non Tae and Tha Song Korn from semi‐subsistence rice‐growing communities to increasingly prosperous settlements with multi‐stranded livelihoods. Villagers accumulated considerable educational capital and left the villages in growing numbers to find work in other places and sectors. They also, however, in large part also returned, raising questions about linear and one‐directional theories of agrarian and mobility transition. It is argued that departure and return continue to be co‐produced in response to conditions in the villages and the wider Thai economy. Circulation is a central element in understanding Thailand's truncated agrarian transition, and vice vera.

Self-Assembled Supramolecular Chiral Complexes of Alginate and Cyanidin-3-O-Glucoside: Insights into the Molecular Basis of Assembly Formation

Complexes of cyanidin 3-O-glucoside (CND) and alginate (Alg) form long-range supramolecular structures at pH 4, where CND is predominantly uncharged. Under these conditions, the complexes exhibit pronounced chiroptical activity, with Circular Dichroism (CD) bands significantly more intense than those of free CND or of CND/Alg complexes formed at lower pH values. Alginate consists of guluronic and mannuronic acid units, which differ in the axial or equatorial orientation of one carboxyl group, respectively. To gain insight into the molecular basis of CND–alginate complexation, CND was separately complexed with polyguluronic (PolyG) and polymannuronic (PolyM) acids. In both cases, only small aggregates were formed, with sizes around 200 nm as measured by Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and 60–120 nm by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) in the dry state. These aggregates lacked the characteristic CD bands observed for CND/Alg complexes at pH 4. Molecular dynamics simulations showed that the spacing between successive carboxylate groups interacting with CND molecules in PolyG and PolyM acids is approximately 7.5–8.0 Å. In alginate, however, an additional shorter distance of about 5.0 Å is present, arising from the alternating guluronic and mannuronic residues along the polymer chain. These results suggest that the alternation of guluronic and mannuronic units in alginate plays an important role in promoting CND–CND interactions, thereby driving cooperative assembly and the formation of extended supramolecular structures with enhanced chiroptical response.

The Impact of the Development Trend and Policy Optimi-zation of NEV on Guizhou Consumers' Usage Behavior Based on Its Natural Environment

Hong Kong's well-established financial platform has become a key driver of the international expansion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from mainland China. This article examines how Hong Kong's financial ecosystem—including capital-raising channels, trade finance, supply chain financing, investment facilitation, corporate governance frameworks, and global market access—supports SME growth and internationalization. The analysis identifies the types of SMEs that benefit most from these financial services, the primary purposes of the funds obtained, the organizational requirements for accessing financing, the advantages of establishing companies in Hong Kong, and the financing options available, including government-backed loans, initial public offerings (IPOs), and private financing markets. The findings indicate that Hong Kong's financial platform effectively reduces financing constraints, improves cross-border business efficiency, strengthens corporate governance practices, and enhances international competitiveness. In addition, the platform provides SMEs with greater credibility and access to global investors and business networks. The study concludes that leveraging Hong Kong's financial infrastructure can significantly accelerate the international growth of mainland Chinese SMEs and recommends strategic collaboration between enterprises and policymakers to maximize these financial and institutional advantages.

A robust, high-content NAM for repeatable and predictive developmental and reproductive toxicity assessment in C. elegans

Abstract Developmental and reproductive toxicity (DART) assessment is essential for product safety evaluation but relies heavily on vertebrate models that are costly, time consuming, and resource intensive. Although Caenorhabditis elegans has emerged as a promising new approach methodology (NAM) for rapid, cost-effective, whole-organism toxicology, broader adoption has been limited by the lack of high-resolution, rapid imaging approaches, limited endpoints, and insufficient evidence supporting assay robustness. To overcome these limitations, we developed vivoDART, a multiparametric imaging-based DART assay designed to be accurate, efficient, robust, and sensitive. Building on our machine learning-accelerated developmental toxicity platform, vivoDART uses microfluidic-assisted, high-resolution brightfield imaging to quantify six developmental and reproductive endpoints for comprehensive DART analysis. Developmental endpoints are derived from automated body-dimension analysis, whereas reproductive endpoints are obtained by quantifying total in utero embryo number and classifying embryos as early- or late-stage relative to the twofold stage. The assay directly assesses sublethal DART phenotypes while minimizing reliance on non-specific apical endpoints such as lethality. vivoDART demonstrated high repeatability, with mean coefficients of variation of 1–5% for developmental endpoints and 6–17% for reproductive endpoints, supporting high statistical power. Assay validation performed using DMSO, methylmercury, and propiconazole involved phenotyping ~ 400,000 embryos across ~ 9,200 worms. Metagenomic analysis of fecal and environmental microbiota in rural mixed livestock farming systems in South Africa

In South African rural areas, farmers often practice mixed extensive livestock farming, facilitating microbial exchange among and between animal species and their environment. The composition and transmission potential of microbiomes between animals and their environments in these smallholder livestock systems remain largely unexplored, creating a gap in understanding how mixed-livestock farming affects gut and environmental microbiomes. Shotgun metagenomics was used to uncover the fecal and environmental microbiota in smallholder mixed livestock systems, aiming to understand microbiome transfer within these systems. A total of 111 samples were collected in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa, including 76 fecal samples from cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, and chickens; 18 soil samples; and 17 water samples. Taxonomic analysis of the sequencing data identified Proteobacteria as the dominant phylum across most hosts, except that pigs were dominated by Firmicutes. Moraxellaceae and Pseudomonadaceae were the differentiating families between monogastrics and ruminants. Although microbial diversity differences were significantly attributed to the host, genera such as Acinetobacter , Chryseobacterium , Flavobacterium , Pedobacter , and Pseudomonas were consistently found across all animal and environmental hosts. Cattle shared more genera with the environment than other animal species. Opportunistic pathogens, including Enterococcus spp., Escherichia coli , and Clostridium spp., were found across all the livestock species, and were highest in chickens. Abstract P32: Integrative Transcriptomic and Deep Learning Model Identifies Anti-Cancer Peptides Targeting KIF2C in Breast Cancer

Abstract Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer and a leading cause of cancer-related death among women worldwide. Drug resistance is a major challenge, contributing to treatment failure and disease progression. Anti-cancer peptides (ACPs), small protein fragments, offer a promising alternative due to their selectivity, low toxicity, and potential for targeted therapy. In this study, we applied integrative bioinformatics and deep learning–based peptide screening to identify novel therapeutic targets and ACPs for breast cancer. Analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) breast cancer dataset revealed 1,417 differentially expressed genes enriched in neuroactive ligand–receptor interaction and cytokine–cytokine receptor pathways. Notably, KIF2C emerged as a key upregulated hub gene associated with poor prognosis, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target. Peptides were generated based on the amino acid composition of known ACPs and screened using machine learning and deep learning models. Top candidates were then evaluated for toxicity, allergenicity, and cell-penetrating ability, identifying peptides with a high probability of ACP activity and low toxicity. Among the nine top candidates, csACP-285 showed the strongest binding to the KIF2C motor domain via molecular docking, supported by favorable binding free energy (ΔG) and stable hydrogen bonding. These findings highlight KIF2C as a viable therapeutic target and csACP-285 as a promising ACP candidate for targeted, low-toxicity breast cancer therapy. Influence of Nickel on Microstructure and Property in Die-Cast Ductile Iron

This study examines the influence of nickel (Ni) additions on the microstructure and hardness of Ductile Iron (DI) produced in permanent molds, where higher cooling rates significantly affect solidification behavior. Ductile iron melts were prepared in a 100-kg induction furnace with varying Ni levels (0.06–12.30 wt.%), and Y-block castings were produced in accordance with ASTM A536. Optical microscopy and image analysis were employed to evaluate graphite morphology and matrix phases, while color etching was used to differentiate bainite and martensite. Results show that increasing Ni reduced the nodule count but promoted the formation of primary graphite due to hypereutectic solidification. The matrix evolved sequentially from ferrite to pearlite, and then to bainite and martensite with higher Ni content. At Ni levels above 9–12 wt.%, retained austenite was observed. Hardness increased with Ni additions up to ~10 wt.% but decreased slightly at higher contents due to the presence of retained austenite. These findings demonstrate that controlled Ni additions can produce ductile iron with comparable hardness to the Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) without heat treatment.

Treatment patterns and outcomes in patients with multiple myeloma in second relapse in Colombia (freedomm): a multicenter observational study

Introduction Treatment selection for patients with relapsed Multiple Myeloma (MM) is highly individualized and characterized by diverse treatment patterns. While substantial evidence exists regarding relapsed MM in high-income settings, data on treatment patterns and clinical outcomes at second relapse in Latin American populations remain limited. This study describes the clinical characteristics, treatment patterns, effectiveness, and safety of third-line therapy in patients with MM experiencing a second relapse in routine clinical practice across five Colombian institutions. Methods This multicenter retrospective observational study included medical records from five specialized institutions in Colombia. Patients with MM who experienced a second relapse and initiated third-line therapy between 2013 and 2022 were included. Baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, and the effectiveness and safety of third-line therapy were analyzed descriptively. Results The study included 84 participants with multiple myeloma who experienced a documented second relapse. The median age at diagnosis was 63.5 years (IQR 57.0 - 70.0), 56% were male, and bone disease and anaemia were the most frequent presenting features. The median time from diagnosis to second relapse was 3.2 years (IQR 1.8 - 4.9). First-line therapy was mainly bortezomib-based, most frequently the combination of bortezomib, cyclophosphamide, and dexamethasone (36.9%). Second-line treatment shifted toward lenalidomide-based regimens, with lenalidomide plus dexamethasone administered to 29.8% of patients. Autologous stem cell transplantation was performed in 36.9% of patients.
