Evidence of global relevance

Disruption of the Gut Microbiome and Mental Health Effects Connected to Environmental Pollutants via the Gut-Brain Axis

This review synthesizes evidence that heavy metals, endocrine disruptors, persistent organic pollutants, microplastics, and particulate matter may alter gut microbes and metabolites, connecting environmental exposure with inflammation, neural signaling, and behavior through the gut-brain axis.

Medication Safety in Older Adults73IMPACT SIGNAL
Evidence of global relevance

Anticholinergic and central nervous system‐active drug burdens and their associations with adverse in‐hospital outcomes among older inpatients

An analysis of 13,607 hospitalizations among patients aged 60 years or older in 2024 found that cumulative anticholinergic and CNS-active drug burdens were associated with delirium, cognitive impairment, falls or fractures, as well as longer stays, mortality, and higher costs.

Evidence of global relevance

Comprehensive exposure assessment of residents in a former tin mining area in Kanchanaburi, Thailand

A multi-pathway assessment in E-Tong, a former tin-mining community on granitic bedrock in Kanchanaburi, covered radon, thoron, gamma radiation, food, and drinking water. The estimated total dose was 2.8 mSv/year, with control-area comparisons indicating geological background rather than residual mining contamination.

Food Bioprocessing and B-Vitamin Fortification73IMPACT SIGNAL
Evidence of global relevance

Impact of carbon and nitrogen source variation on B-vitamin accumulation in Yarrowia lipolytica: Toward microbial fortification of food ingredients

Controlled fermentations showed that carbon and nitrogen formulation can tune B-vitamin profiles in Yarrowia lipolytica biomass. Glucose with yeast extract produced the highest biomass and intracellular B1, B3, and B6, whereas mixed sugars maximized intracellular folate.

PCOSFusion: a hybrid HOG–LBP feature-based approach for PCOS classification using StackPCOS and StackBoostPCOS

The study proposes an automated ovarian-image classifier combining HOG-LBP features with two stacking-ensemble strategies. The version adding Gradient Boosting as a fifth base learner reported 98.44% accuracy, 99.35% precision, and 98.49% recall.

Effects of Dietary Supplementation with Wolffia globosa and Limosilactobacillus reuteri KUB-AC5 on Health Parameters and Gut Microbiota Composition in Dogs

A 28-day feeding trial in 24 healthy dogs compared a control diet, 3.5% Wolffia globosa powder, and Wolffia combined with Limosilactobacillus reuteri KUB-AC5. Body weight, condition, fecal consistency, intake, and blood measures did not differ, while selected bacterial taxa changed.

Nanocrystalline Films and Semiconductor Materials73IMPACT SIGNAL
Evidence of global relevance

Investigation of the annealing duration effect on the structural, morphological, wettability, and mechanical properties of nanocrystalline iron disilicide

Thai researchers deposited nanocrystalline iron disilicide films on silicon using facing-target sputtering and compared annealing at 300 degrees Celsius for two, four, and six hours. Longer annealing improved crystallite distribution and appeared to reduce some defects, but produced only modest changes in structure, wettability, and hardness.

Spontaneous formation of highly concentrated phenylacetylcarbinol via in situ phase separation in deep eutectic solvents using Candida magnoliae whole cells

Chiang Mai University and collaborators screened nine deep-eutectic solvents with Candida magnoliae whole cells for phenylacetylcarbinol production. Choline chloride:glycerol performed best; the 20%-water system reached 148.2 mM total PAC, while a 100%-water, 1:1 DES:buffer condition improved productivity and spontaneously formed a PAC-rich top phase around 2.5 M. This integrates reaction with initial separation at laboratory scale, not yet proven sustainable at process scale.

Curcumin and Cognitive Health: Insights from Randomized Controlled Trials

This review summarises adult curcumin RCTs, with some Longvida, Theracurmin and CurQfen trials reporting improvements in memory, attention, mood, cerebral blood flow or inflammatory markers, particularly in older adults. Results vary by formulation, dose, duration and population. The abstract gives no systematic search, trial count or pooled effect, so evidence is insufficient to recommend curcumin as a cognitive enhancer.

Contraceptive implant discontinuation at one year in adults and adolescents: Implications for adolescent reproductive health services

A retrospective cohort of 2,014 etonogestrel or levonorgestrel implant initiators in 2016-2021 found one-year discontinuation at 3.83 per 100 person-years overall, 2.84 in adolescents and 4.16 in adults, with no significant difference. Sequential users had lower hazard (aHR 0.29), and abnormal bleeding was the leading reason. Single-centre findings should not diminish adolescent-specific services.

Identification and protein modelling analysis of a homozygous FUT1*01W.09 variant in a Thai patient with the para‐Bombay phenotype

A single Thai para-Bombay case was studied by serology, whole-exome/Sanger sequencing and protein modelling. Homozygous FUT1 c.658C>T (p.Arg220Cys; FUT1*01W.09) accompanied ABO*B.01 and a silent FUT2 variant. Modelling suggested impaired substrate interactions without global destabilisation. The result informs compatible transfusion, but mechanism is in silico and evidence comes from one patient.

Natural-Product Chemistry and EGFR Inhibition73IMPACT SIGNAL
Evidence of global relevance

Late-stage halogenation of Scortechinone D via NaX oxidation and inhibitory activity against EGFR tyrosine kinase

Thai chemists used Oxone and sodium halides for late-stage halogenation of scortechinone D, yielding three new derivatives characterised by NMR/HRMS and X-ray for the iodo compound. Compound 2 inhibited EGFR tyrosine kinase by 63.5% at 10 μM but also suppressed normal WI-38 cell growth by 58.8% at the same concentration, indicating poor selectivity and no drug-ready lead.
