Severe Pregnancy-Associated Acute Kidney Injury and Maternal Vulnerability

Electronic records covering 4,094,111 US pregnancies showed severe pregnancy-associated acute kidney injury rising from 9.0 to 27.6 per 10,000 pregnancies between 2012-2013 and the COVID-19 era. Pre-existing cardiometabolic vulnerability was associated with risk, but observational data cannot separate infection, access, testing, and secular trends.

Integrative hematological and transcriptomic analysis reveals monocyte alterations and molecular signatures of inflammatory-coagulation crosstalk in long COVID

A comparison of 21 people with long COVID and 24 asymptomatic controls found lower white-cell, monocyte, and platelet counts and longer APTT. Integrated with a separate public transcriptomic dataset, the findings support a proposed inflammation-coagulation model, but the small and non-identical datasets cannot establish mechanism.

Toxicological Assessment of Oligofructans Derived from Raw Sugar Fermentation by Bacillus subtilis TISTR 001 and Their Modulatory Effects on Rat Gut Microbiota

Thai researchers evaluated oligofructans produced from raw sugar using Bacillus subtilis TISTR 001. A Multi-Frequency SAR Framework for Methane Emission Estimation in Thai Rice Paddies

A GISTDA-led framework combines Sentinel-1 and ALOS-2 radar with IPCC accounting to detect crop timing, classify water regimes, and estimate methane from irrigated rice in Thailand's central plain. Mean absolute error was 18.5 kg CH4/ha, but structural uncertainty in the IPCC Tier 1 emission factor exceeded all algorithmic errors combined.

Predictors of Early Recurrence and Survival Outcomes Following Curative Resection for Colorectal Liver Metastases and the Role of Salvage Surgery: A Retrospective Cohort Study

In a retrospective cohort of 109 patients undergoing liver resection for colorectal liver metastases, high tumor burden, major intraoperative blood loss, T3/T4 primary disease, and RAS mutation were associated with early recurrence. Selected patients undergoing salvage re-hepatectomy had favorable long-term survival, but small subgroups and strong selection bias prevent causal conclusions.

Benefits of three consecutive sputum inductions using nebulized racemic salbutamol versus hypertonic saline in smear-negative or sputum-scarce pulmonary tuberculosis patients: a prospective randomized, double-blind study

In a randomized double-blind trial of 345 adults with suspected smear-negative or sputum-scarce pulmonary tuberculosis, three consecutive daily inductions with nebulized racemic salbutamol produced a higher combined smear-or-culture yield and fewer adverse events than 3% hypertonic saline. The single-center study evaluates specimen collection for diagnosis, not tuberculosis treatment outcomes.

High glucose induced senescence in proximal tubular cells, whose SASP-conditioned medium then triggered epithelial-mesenchymal transition in distal tubular cells and fibroblast activation. EGCG, L-theanine, and theophylline suppressed these effects while restoring SIRT1/PGC-1alpha signaling.

Inhibition of calpain-mediated BAX cleavage attenuates Japanese encephalitis virus-induced apoptosis in SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells

In SH-SY5Y cells, Japanese encephalitis virus activated calpain to cleave BAX into p18 BAX, which moved to mitochondria and triggered cytochrome c, caspase-3, PARP cleavage, and apoptosis. The calpain inhibitor calpeptin attenuated these signals and improved cell viability.
